Study identifies cells that give rise to brown fat (EurekAlert, 20 December 2010)

Joslin Diabetes Center researchers have identified progenitor cells in mouse white fat tissue and skeletal muscle that can be transformed into brown fat cells. Brown fat cells are able to burn fat and therefore represent an interesting lead in the search for an effective treatment for obesity.
