Short winter days linked to increased aggression in hamsters

Researchers in the US have identified a hormonal mechanism in female hamsters that links short winter days with increased aggression.The study, published in Proceedings of the Royal Academy B, shows melatonin acts directly on the adrenal glands in females to trigger a 'seasonal aggression switch' from hormones in the gonads to hormones in the adrenal glands.
