Giant race 'came from mutant gene' (Press Association, 6 January 2011)

A British and German collaboration has investigated DNA from the teeth of Charles Byrne, the 18th Century 'Irish Giant'. The findings describe a mutation which is shared by living gigantism patients from four Northern Irish families, and add to a body of work that points to a local common ancestor for the mutant gene.
