Drinking beer could help prevent weak bones (The Guardian, 8 February 2010)

University of California researchers have shown that including malted barley and hops in the brewing process increases the silicon content of beers, which could help to strengthen bones and provide a modicum of protection against diseases such as osteoporosis. Experts recommend against increasing one's daily intake on the basis of these findings.
