Does the contraceptive pill cause depression?

A big news story this week, a Danish study of more than a million women taking hormonal contraceptives found that those on the combined pill were 23% more likely to be prescribed an antidepressant than those not on hormonal contraception. The study was published in JAMA Psychiatry.
