Departure of migratory birds from stopover sites is hormone-controlled

Research, published in PNAS, has identified ghrelin as the key signal for birds to continue their migration after feeding. Garden warblers injected with additional ghrelin exhibited decreased appetite and increased the highly active state of migratory restlessness.
