Clever gene construct combats metabolic syndrome (Medical Xpress, 18 December 2012)

Researchers from Switzerland publishing in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences have developed a synthetic signalling cascade that can be stimulated by the application of a licensed antihypertensive drug and results in the production of a GLP-1 and leptin conjugate. The researchers report that mice implanted with cells that express this function resolve several symptoms of the metabolic syndrome when given said drug.
