An analysis of ancient DNA from Neolithic Iberian and French farmers, conducted by a European collaboration and published in Molecular Biology and Evolution, challenges a theory that lactose intolerance was selected out of Northern European populations by the need for dietary vitamin D in northern latitudes (the "calcium assimilation hypothesis").
