Risk of depression during menopause transition not universal

Research presented in The Lancet suggests that not all women are at risk of depressive symptoms when transitioning to the menopause, though surgical and early menopause can increase a risk of depression. The researchers conclude that depression should not be attributed to the menopause, and that further research is needed.
