Research presented in BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health has suggested that women who had their first menstrual period at age 10 have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than their counterparts aged around 13. Early menarche age may also be an early indicator of cardiometabolic disease later in life.
