The Society for Endocrinology is offering you the opportunity to put your questions about the future of UK science to science policy-makers at Voice of the Future 2014, a parliamentary event taking place at the House of Commons on Wednesday 19 March 2014. We have four places to allocate to Young Endocrinologists who submit questions most relevant to the future of endocrinology. These individuals will be invited to represent the Society at the event with travel expenses paid.
Voice of the Future 2014 forms part of National Science & Engineering Week, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of science and engineering to the UK. As early career scientists, you will be able to put forward questions to the Select Committee, the Science Minister, the Shadow Science minister and the government’s Chief Scientific Adviser – all of which will be broadcast live on BBC Parliament and immortalised in the Hansard record. Because Voice of the Future 2014 will run similarly to a regular select committee, it is an invaluable opportunity for you to participate in parliamentary activities and learn more about how science policy is formed. Regardless of the career path you wish to follow, attending this event could be a prestigious addition to your CV. You can read about the experiences of one of our members who took part in last year’s event in The Endocrinologist. A video of last year's event is also available here.
To take part in this initiative, email your question to [email protected] by Friday 7 February. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted soon afterwards. Questions should not be too scientific (we are not testing the scientific knowledge of MPs), but related to science policy.
Please note that for logistical reasons during the event the questions chosen for answer may not be asked by the individuals who originally submitted them. There is also a possibility that not every question will be asked. However, only those who submitted the chosen questions will be invited to personally attend the event.
