Voice of the Future 2013 (1)

22 Mar 2013

On Wednesday 20 March 2013, four of the Society for Endocrinology's Young Endocrinologists were given the opportunity to attend 'Voice of the Future 2013' which was held in the Boothroyd Room in the House of Commons.

The event was organised by the Society of Biology, supported by their funding group for parliamentary affairs, and gave our representatives the rare opportunity to put topical questions to a panel of MPs.

The event was introduced by John Bercow MP, the Speaker of the House of Commons. Attending were members of the House of Commons Select Committee on Science & Technology; the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP; the Shadow Minister for Higher Education and Science, Shabana Mahmood MP (Labour); and the outgoing Government Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir John Beddington.

This event formed part of the National Science and Engineering Week programme. Our own ‘young endocrinologists’ joined representatives from a number of other professional societies and fired their questions at the participating MPs from the seats usually reserved for members of the Select Committee.

The event had its own hashtag #VOF2013 and was broadcast live by BBC Democracy Live. If you missed it, you can watch the session here.

A report on the event written by one of our Young Endocrinologists will be published in the Summer edition of The Endocrinologist.
