Update on the Biosciences Federation and Institute of Biology's integration

29 Jul 2009

The Privy Council has now formally approved the Royal Charter meaning that integration of the Biosciences Federation and Institute of Biology can go ahead to form the Society for Biology. The planned date for the formal integration is 1 October 2009, when all current members of the Biosciences Federation and Institute of Biology will become members of the new society.

Prof Dame Nancy Rothwell will be the first President, Dr William Marshall has been appointed as the Honorary Treasurer and Prof David Coates as Honorary Secretary. The current Interim Council will form the basis of the new Council, with a managed transition of the current members to the new profile of elected and appointed members from the two Colleges (Organisational and Individual). Council members will be elected by the Society of Biology membership.
