Underdiagnosis of type 2 diabetes suspected following introduction of HbA1c

A Danish study published in The Lancet Regional Health-Europe questions the efficacy of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) as a diagnostic test for type 2 diabetes. The study found that diagnoses of type 2 diabetes rose in the years prior to the introduction of the test but fell in the years after, which the researchers suggest is due to borderline cases being missed.
