UK scientists wanted to take part in Cafe Scientifique in Australia

12 Feb 2007

The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) are looking for UK scientists to take part in Café Scientifique, a project that operates worldwide where locally based groups organise an informal event (usually about once a month) to explore, discuss and debate the latest ideas in science. This takes the form of a lively panel discussion in a bar, café, theatre, bookshop etc i.e. outside of the enclaves of the labs, offices, seminar rooms and lecture theatres, and accessible to those outside the scientific community. The British Council is involved with this project in Australia and therefore the organisers are compelled to have at least one UK-based person as a panel member at each event. Unfortunately, they don't have funds for flying scientists over from the UK, but they are hoping that people may happen to be visiting sometime in 2007 and be willing to take part in an event. If you or your colleagues are interested in taking part in a Café Scientifique in Australia and are able to get there under your own steam, please get in touch with the Australian Science Media Centre director, Susannah Elliot: [email protected] who will forward your interest on to the ABC. Note: ABC take a lead in organising the events, but this is a community event, not a broadcast programme.
