To help improve the delivery of patient care, the Leeds Institute of Genetics, Health and Therapeutics (LIGHT) carries out internationally competitive translational research into complex chronic disorders (including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and reproductive health). The Institute is organised into Divisions comprised of clinical and scientific staff from Medicine and Health (Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research, Cardiovascular and Neuronal Remodelling, Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Medical Physics) and from Biological Sciences. The Institute is currently seeking applications from outstanding, highly motivated individuals who hold, or expect to obtain a relevant first degree at a standard of 2.1 or above for two Institute underwritten PhD studentships. The Institute will guarantee stipends at the level of MRC PhD studentships (£13290 commencing October 2009) plus full time fees (available to UK/EU students only) for 3 years and successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for a variety of externally funded PhD studentships with the support of supervisors.
