Timing of gonadectomy in adult women with CAIS

In order to reduce malignancy risk, the surgical removal of the gonads has been standard advice in the clinical management of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS). However, the lack of an accurate estimate for adult malignancy risk and the perceived benefits of retaining gonads are prompting more adult women with CAIS to defer or decline gonadectomy. Deans and colleagues reviewed the evidence on the risk of gonadal malignancy in adult women with CAIS and explored the reasons given for deferring gonadectomy. Deans et al.
