Thyroid hormone effects on ovarian function (Rome, Italy)

22 May 2013

Added via Euraxess. The proposed project aims to study the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and female fertility alteration, whose molecular mechanisms are currently unclear. The research will evaluate the effects of thyroid hormones T3 and T4 treatment on the functional activity and on the survival of ovarian granulosa. The direct effects of thyroid hormones will be studied on three different culture systems of rat follicles, of rat granulosa cells and of human granulosa luteal cells. The growth and the function in response to thyroid hormone treatments will be studied.

The second phase of the project will be focused on the evalutation of the capacity of thyroid hormones to protect the granulosa cells from an apoptotic death induced by serum deprivation. The role of thyroid hormone treatment on apoptosis and cell cycle will be analyzed.
