The Society of Biology calls on Parliamentary candidates to maintian support for biosciences

In a letter to all Parliamentary candidates in the upcoming general election, the Chief Executive of the Society of Biology Mark Downs urges the future government of the UK to ensure that the potential of science to benefit society is fully realised.

The letter calls on Members of the next Parliament to recognise the central role of science in the economy by maintaining or increasing funding for basic and applied research in real terms; to recognise the importance of practical as well as theoretical skills in the training of scientists and the financial support this requires; and to intensify efforts to ensure that scientific evidence is well used and communicated across government.
