The letter calls on Members of the next Parliament to recognise the central role of science in the economy by maintaining or increasing funding for basic and applied research in real terms; to recognise the importance of practical as well as theoretical skills in the training of scientists and the financial support this requires; and to intensify efforts to ensure that scientific evidence is well used and communicated across government.
