Systemic effects of intratympanic steroids

Intratympanic glucocorticoids are effective in the treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss, the stabilization of Ménière's disease, and in autoimmune ear disorders. Intratympanic administration should minimise systemic side effects. Novoa and colleagues carried out a prospective cohort study, finding that intratympanic dexamethason did not interfere with endogenous cortisol secretion or bone metabolism.
