Study of pituitary tumours in pregnancy

15 Dec 2010

The evidence base for management of pituitary tumours is very limited and this national study hopes to provide a guide to endocrinologists in their management of these patients during pregnancy.

The study, which lasts for 3 years (till March 2013), is being run through the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS), which collects data from all the consultant-led obstetric units in the UK, (around 220) on a variety of rare disorders in pregnancy. The anonymous data is sent to the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit in Oxford.

Patients needed: All UK women with a pituitary tumour diagnosed in or pre pregnancy with: macroprolactinoma (excluding tumours over 1 cm diameter), Cushing's disease, acromegaly, TSH-adenoma, non-functioning pituitary adenoma.

If you are aware of an index case please contact either Professor David McCance ([email protected]) or Professor Catherine Williamson ([email protected]), who will then liaise with the link obstetrician within the trust and inform the UKOSS team about the case. You would then be invited to contribute to completion of the data collection form but would not be expected to have primary responsibility for completing the form unless you wished to.
