Stable chest pain risk assessment

Cubukcu and colleagues conducted a retrospective study to assess the impact and relevance of the 2010 NICE stable chest pain of recent onset guideline compared to the equivalent European guideline. They found that both guidelines appear to overestimate the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) leading to an excessive number of coronary angiograms being undertaken. They suggest that stress echocardiography could be used to reduce referrals for invasive angiography.
