Albrectsen and colleagues investigated the stability of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucagon in plasma under short- and long-term storage conditions. Recovery was unaffected by freezing cycles or by plasma storage on ice for up to 3 h, but was impaired by more than 1h at room temperature. GLP-1 recovery was improved by a DPP4 inhibitor, but was not further improved by a neutral endopeptidase 24.11 inhibitor or an inhibitor cocktail. Glucagon recovery was ~50% reduced by freezing regardless of storage time.
