Dr Rachel Batterham, from University College London, has been nominated as a
Morgan Stanley Great Briton of 2007 in the Science & Innovation category.
Morgan Stanley Great Britons is an annual awards programme that recognises and celebrates outstanding British achievement over the past year.
This year Dr Rachel Batterham has led a team of researchers, at University College London, to show the effect certain hormones have on the way brain circuitry can influence how much a person eats. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging she extended her previous work on the hormone peptide YY, a powerful appetite suppressant. It is hoped that the results may help target new treatments against obesity. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in January.
