27 Mar 2009

Research presented at SfE BES 2009 in Harrogate has hit the headlines! Studying the effects of kisspeptin in women with infertility, Dr Waljit Dhillo and colleagues from Imperial College London, have shown that kisspeptin causes a dramatic increase in sex hormone levels presenting it as a potential treatment for infertility. Also presenting at SfE BES 2009, Dr Tom Barber (Oxford Univeristy) showed that the 'obesity gene' FTO is also linked with susceptibility to polycystic ovary syndrome. Meanwhile, Dr Reza Norouzy (King's College London) described how a single low GI meal leads to increased levels of the gut hormone GLP-1, compared to a high GI meal.
