Age UK funds research to improve the health and wellbeing of older people. This is an exciting opportunity to join Age UK for six months to support this programme.

The successful candidate will assist with the award of new research grants in 2012, including supporting the peer review process and the grants panel, and be part of a review of this grant round. They will also support management of the portfolio of ongoing funded awards, prepare written lay descriptions of existing and new research projects and draft a scheme to engage older people in our research funding decisions.

Applicants should have a PhD in a life science or related area and a thorough understanding of research funding, peer review processes and post-award administration, gained either through managing competitive peer-reviewed grant schemes in a funding body or through experience in a research environment. You will be experienced in monitoring research and cataloguing outcomes and impact, and be able to produce clear, lay summaries from complex research information for public audiences.
