Based in the Henry Wellcome Laboratories for Integrative Neuroscience and Endocrinology (HW-LINE), you will investigate why exercising subjects can cope better with stress and how the brain can steer glucocorticoid responses to stress through modulation of sympatho-adrenal outflow. This multidisciplinary project involves experimental in vivo technologies (e.g. in vivo microdialysis), hormone measurements by HPLC with electrochemical detection and radioimmunoassays, and functional neuroanatomical techniques such as immunohistochemistry, double/triple immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization histochemistry.
You will be working in an international research team with a strong track record in this field. The project is headed by Professor JMHM (Hans) Reul in collaboration with Dr Astrid Linthorst, Professor Stafford Lightman and Professor Julian Paton. You should have, or be working towards, a PhD preferably in a neuroscience- or neuroendocrinology-related area. Ideally, you should have experience in experimental in vivo techniques and hormone analysis (HPLC-EC) methods. This Wellcome Trust-funded post is available from January 2009 for the duration of two years.
The salary will be £33,432. Please direct informal enquiries to
