Congratulations to Professor Raj Thakker on his OBE award announced in the King's Birthday Honours List, for services to ‘Medical Science and to People with Hereditary and Rare Disorders'.
Professor Thakker has held various leadership positions within the Society, most recently as President of the Society 2019-2022. He also received the Society's Dale Medal in 2015, which is the highest accolade bestowed by the Society
In response to the exciting news, Thakker said “I am of course delighted to receive this honour but feel humbled as the honour really belongs to my wonderful team of clinical and scientific researchers and global collaborators (which includes many members of the SfE) , whose dedicated work has made the discoveries and facilitated translation of scientific advances into benefits for patients. Indeed, patients are central to my work and it is their courage and determination to triumph over many adversities that has provided me with constant inspiration to take on challenges. I am indebted to all of you, and the funders, especially the MRC and Welcome Trust for support.”
