Public Event on Hormones Well Received

19 Mar 2007

The Society for Endocrinology staged a successful public event entitled “Hormones inside and out – how lifestyle choices and chemicals in the environment can shape our lives and bodies”. The event was timed to coincide with the Society BES meeting at the ICC in Birmingham. Talks were given by Prof. Richard Sharpe (Medical Research Council) and Prof. Jonathon Seckl (University of Edinburgh) on how hormones can shape our lives, drawing on examples from the effect of hormones on obesity to how hormone exposure during fetal development can affect an individual throughout their life and down the generations. Feedback from the public was extremely positive with both talks generating stimulating and informative debate. We hope to stage another event later this year.
