Prize lectures, Liverpool and mini-golf

25 Mar 2014

So this year's BES is in full swing in a rather windy but great host city of Liverpool. I have to say the ACC Liverpool is a fab venue and the surrounding dock area beautiful.

As for the scientific programme so far it hasn't failed to disappoint. Firstly, as a member of the Young Endocrinologist Steering Group I want to say a big well done to all the Young Endocrinologists who have presented so far. All the speakers in the 'Young Endocrinologist' prize session' and the 'Society for Endocrinology Young Endocrinologists' Prize Lectures' did a great job, presenting confidently with a really high standard of science. I found them all really interesting, as I'm sure did the rest if the delegates. Also well done to all the Young Endocrinologists who have co-chaired sessions, I know it can be as nerve wracking to have to come up with questions as answer them but I was impressed. Overall the standard is very high this year with a great variety of endocrinology subjects covered and we haven't even had the plenary talks yet! I'm therefore looking forward to the next few days and good luck to all who are yet to present either a talk or poster.

Now for another very important aspect of the conference, the social programme. Networking at these events is as important as presenting your work so I want to especially encourage all the Young Endocrinologists to make sure they attend the social programme too. It was good to see people in good spirits and interacting at the Welcome reception, even playing rounds of mini golf! Also the live music was a great touch which everybody appreciated. Last night we also hosted the Young Endocrinologists quiz. Thank you to all those who attended, it was an evening of good food, good wine and good company so I hope everybody enjoyed themselves as much as I did. If you didn't attend this year and you are a Young Endocrinologist make sure you sign up next time. Also don't forget we also always need a PI on each table so encourage your boss to come along too!
