A position is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate within Professor Anne White’s research team in Endocrine Sciences at the University of Manchester. This project will study the interaction between the stress axis and metabolism, with particular reference to changes in peripheral glucocorticoids. In vivo models of obesity and diabetes will be used, but consideration of how these interactions translate to man, particularly obese and/or diabetic patients will be an important element. The project will include characterisation of biomarkers of abnormalities in the stress axis and will examine how abnormalities change with circadian rhythm.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline with at least one publication in an internationally recognised journal. Prior experience of in vivo physiology is essential; transgenic models, hormone measurement and molecular biology are desirable. You will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with a willingness to learn.
This position is available from September 2008 for 12 months on a salary of £27,466 p.a, and is in collaboration with AstraZeneca where part of this work will be undertaken.
