Postdoctoral positions and studentships available at Institute of Experimental Endocrinology, Berlin, Germany

23 Oct 2012

One postdoctoral position and two PhD studentships are available at the Institute of Experimental Endocrinology, Charité, Berlin, for research on metabolism and action of novel thyroid hormones and their metabolites such as thyronamines and thyroacetic acids.

The main task of the postdoc will be the further development, validation and application of LC-MS/MS and immunological methods for quantification of the thyroid hormone ‘metabolome’ in various body fluids and tissues (human and mouse). The project will also address the functional and molecular aspects of thyroid hormone ‘metabolome’ regulation and action.

One PhD student will work on the project 'Effects of thyronamines and thyroacetic acid metabolites on energy metabolism – mitochondrial function, Ca2+-signalling, plasma membrane action.' This topic includes molecular, cellular, bioenergetic, signal transduction as well as analytical aspects mainly employing cell culture models and ex vivo analyses from rodent tissues.

The other PhD student will address the topic 'Cellular thyroid hormone signalling mechanisms during weight maintenance' in the context of the Clinical Research Group Maintenance of Body Weight. The student will study signalling and action of novel thyroid metabolites in (transgenic) mouse and cell culture models and employ knock-down and inhibitory strategies to explore metabolism and mechanisms of action of thyroid hormone metabolites.

Please apply by submitting your cover letter, summary of research experience, CV, and names of two referees, preferably by e-mail as a single pdf-file, to Prof. Dr Josef Köhrle: [email protected] or his secretary at: [email protected]. The positions are available now so please apply promptly.
