PKC and ERK mediate lipolysis

Growth hormone (GH) regulates several key physiological processes, including growth and the mobilization of stored lipids from adipose tissue. Bergan and colleagues used an experimental model in rainbow trout to investigate the mechanism by which GH mediates lipolysis, finding that GH promotes the expression of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL)-encoding mRNA, as well as increasing the phosphorylation of HSL via activation of the PLC/PKC and MEK/ERK pathways.
