PhD studentship, University of Sheffield

01 Nov 2011

Via www.jobs.ac.uk. A PhD studentship is available at the University of Sheffield to study a project entitled 'Epigenetic Consequences Of Exposure To Anti-Androgenic Compounds'.

Exposure to compounds that antagonise steroid hormones can disrupt endocrine functions and modulate susceptibility to cancer. Anti-androgenic drugs are used to treat prostate cancer, but clinical responses sometimes improve after anti-androgen treatment is stopped. Anti-androgens can exert powerful effects during development that increase susceptibility of both exposed experimental animals and their descendants to a range of chronic diseases, including prostatic disease. The aim of this project is to elucidate the effects of anti-androgens on the epigenome and transcriptome during development of the zebrafish, a model vertebrate, and in human prostate cancer cells.

Interested candidates should contact the project supervisor Vincent Cunliffe at [email protected]. Click on the link below for eligibility criteria and details of how to apply. The closing date for applications is 22 November 2011.
