PhD studentship, University of Nottingham (1)

A PhD studentship entitled: 'The role of early gut development in the onset of childhood obesity' is available at the University of Nottingham - Schools of Clinical Sciences, Veterinary Science & Medicine, and Biosciences in collaboration with the University of Alberta, Canada. The studentship aims to develop novel interventions aimed at promoting gut function. Accelerated growth through infancy is a major risk factor for later obesity, although the exact mechanisms have yet to be fully explained. One organ that could play a major role in this type of growth acceleration, as well as in the onset of childhood obesity, is excess gut growth. This could then result in a resetting of gut function with respect to its nutrient exchange and hormone secretory capacity.
