PhD studentship, University of Manchester

19 Nov 2012

Via www.findaphd.com. A PhD project entitled 'Effects of stress hormones during pregnancy on epigenetic programming in the offspring' is available at the University of Manchester. The aim of this project is to determine whether stress/increased glucocorticoids in the mother causes epigenetic changes in brain pathways regulating feeding and energy balance in the offspring. This will be achieved using animal models of stress or glucocorticoid exposure during pregnancy, and assessment of offspring phenotype in later life. Molecular tools will include qPCR, methylation enrichment PCR and chromatin immunoprecipitation.

Overall, this project will gain a clearer understanding of the mechanisms by which maternal stress can alter the regulation of food intake and energy balance in subsequent generations. Click on the link below for details of how to apply for this studentship by the closing date of 25 January 2013.
