PhD studentship, Oxford Brookes University

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Oxford Brookes University are offering a three year PhD research studentship to study the 'Effect of hypothyroidism on pancreatic islet cell development and insulin signalling pathways in the ovine foetus'.

Thyroid hormones are important regulators of growth and development in the foetus, although the mechanisms responsible are poorly understood. This project will examine the effect of thyroid hormone deficiency on pancreatic islet development and insulin signalling pathways in ovine foetal tissues. The techniques used will include radioimmunoassay, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, stereological analysis of pancreatic structure, Western blotting and quantitative RT-PCR.
