Increasing evidence shows that adipocytes (fat cells) play a far more dynamic role in metabolism and inflammation than first suspected. By both secreting and responding to a variety of metabolic and inflammatory factors, the adipocyte's function in health and disease is a topic of great interest to scientists and clinicians in a variety of specialties.
This PhD studentship will investigate the physiology of adipocytes using blood and adipose tissue samples from well-characterised human volunteers. The effect of a variety of exercise and dietary interventions on adipose tissue will be examined.
The deadline for applications is 16 July 2010. Further information on the position and how to apply is available at the link below.
