PhD studentship in obesity research, Imperial College London

11 Nov 2011

A PhD studentship in obesity research is available within the Department of Medicine, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Imperial College London. The studentship will commence in February 2012 and the stipend is £17,500 p.a. The successful applicants will be joining an internationally-renowned research group, within one of the world’s top research universities. The research group takes a multidisciplinary approach to study of appetite regulation and possible avenues for the treatment of obesity, one of the major killers in the western world.

The project is entitled 'Determining the pathways by which protein regulates appetite'. The successful candidate will use a variety of physiological and pharmacological techniques to investigate the metabolic and hormonal pathways by which protein regulates appetite. Establishing how appetite is controlled will allow the identification of new targets for the development of therapies to cure obesity and Type II diabetes.

The deadline for applications is 9 December 2011. Informal enquiries and further information can be obtained from Dr Kevin Murphy ([email protected]). Applicants who expect to or have obtained at least a 2:1 in a relevant subject should send an up-to-date curriculum vitae, including the names and addresses of two academic referees, to Dr Kevin Murphy, Section of Investigative Medicine, 6th Floor Commonwealth Building, Imperial College Hammersmith Campus, Du Cane Road, London, W12 0NN (fax: 020 8383 3142; email: [email protected]).
