The average life expectancy of European men remains 5-6 years below that of women, yet a great deal less research has been conducted into the health of aging men than on postmenopausal women. This PhD studentship will investigate the role of the endocrine system in physical and mental frailty in the aging male.
The successful candidate will be provided with extensive training in epidemiology, biostatistics, longitudinal data analyses and interpretation, endocrinology, psychological wellbeing (cognition, mood), physical frailty and genetic polymorphism of hormone action, and will gain transferable skills which will enable them to continue in an academic career.
