PhD studentship 'Genetics and Genomics of Common Human Diseases and Traits', Exeter

11 Oct 2011

Via www.naturejobs.com. The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Exeter, are seeking to attract PhD candidates to join a research team led by Prof Tim Frayling, Dr Mike Weedon and Dr Anna Murray. This team has been at the forefront of genetic and genomic advances in common human diseases and traits and has jointly led discoveries of gene variants influencing obesity, type 2 diabetes, adult height and female reproductive age, which have been published in the top scientific and genetic journals.

Two PhD students are sought to take these initial discoveries forward to the “next generation” of genetics projects. The successful applicants will have access to unique sources of genetic data, including genome wide sequencing (exome and whole genome) of large numbers of individuals with diabetes, metabolic traits and reproductive phenotypes, with the aim of discovering more about the genetic basis of these complex traits. The studentships will provide an excellent training in cutting edge bioinformatics, genetics and genomics.
