Obesity is a huge global health concern. Obesity surgery of the stomach is the treatment with the strongest and most long-term effect on weight reduction. However, the knowledge of long-term effects of obesity surgery regarding prognosis and risk of cancer remain unknown. This project involves epidemiological research based on Nordic register data. An important task is to coordinate the researchers representing each of the participating Nordic countries in a working group and see to that all data are collected in a large cohort of obesity surgery patients and link this cohort to registers for cancer, death and others. When all data is collected, the work will include statistical analysis, supervised by an experienced statistician, and writing of manuscripts.
