The newly established research group in metabolic disorders at the Institute of General Zoology and Endocrinology at the University of Ulm, invites applicants for a PhD fellowship. The research will focus on molecular control of body iron homeostasis in the most prevalent genetic iron overload disorder. The lab uses transgenic mice, complex cell culture models and bioinformatics tools to investigate the role of macrophages in the cross-talk between systemic and cellular iron responses and inflammation.

A comprehensive PhD training programme is offered with courses in state-of-the-art techniques and soft skills within the Molecular Medicine Graduate School in Ulm. The funding is according to the regulations of the DFG (German Research Foundation) and is available for three years starting from October 2012. Highly motivated students with a Masters degree (or equivalent) in cell or molecular biology or biochemistry and a strong interest in mouse genetics are invited to apply by sending a letter of interest, CV and contact details of two referees in a single PDF file by email to: [email protected] by the closing date of 30 September 2012.
