Last week, the Commons Science and Technology Committee published a long awaited report on ‘Women in Scientific Careers’. According to this report, only 17 per cent of all professors in STEM are women. The report highlighted the need for Universities to address ongoing “systemic and cumulative discrimination against women throughout STEM study and academic careers”. The author of the report, the MP Andrew Miller, says that more work must be done by employers to support women in academic careers. This report was informed by a number of stakeholders, including Society for Endocrinology Committee members, who provided evidence on their experiences as women in academia.
