NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships in Endocrinology and Diabetes, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital and University of East Anglia

01 Nov 2012

Applications are invited for two NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowships (ACFs) based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, in collaboration with partners across the Norwich Research Park and the East of England Deanery. These posts are part of the NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre programme of Integrated Academic Training (IAT) and offer candidates the resources and support necessary to develop excellent academic skills while working with internationally renowned clinicians and researchers. We have an established track record in successfully obtaining research training fellowship funding for a previous ACF.

The Norwich Research Park (NRP - www.norwichresearchpark.com) provides an ideal location for the delivery of IAT programmes, given the extremely close links that exist between academic clinicians based at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, and researchers based at the University of East Anglia, Institute of Food Research, The Genome Analysis Centre and The John Innes Centre. Nearly 90% of the research was rated of international excellence in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (2008), with over 50% ‘world leading’. The NRP has one of Europe’s largest single-site concentrations of health research institutions, each of which boasts world-class facilities that allow various forms of research, including clinical trials, DNA sequencing and genome technologies, metabolomics, proteomics and bioimaging.

The posts are for three years, with each year comprising 75% clinical and 25% research time, to ensure the right balance of clinical and research experience is maintained throughout the fellowship. The 25% research time will be absolutely protected and ring-fenced. Confirmation has been provided by the East of England Deanery that these posts attract a NTN(a).

One position is in Endocrinology and Diabetes and the other post is in Metabolic Bone Disease and Endocrinology, start dates are March 2013 and August 2013. Full job descriptions and further information can be found in the link below.

If you’d like to learn more about these opportunities, please contact Dr Francesca Swords ([email protected]) or Dr Jeremy Turner ([email protected]). Enquires about the application process should be made to [email protected]. The closing date for applications is 12 November 2012.
