News from the Addison's Disease Self Help Group

03 Jun 2010

The Addison's Disease Self Help Group (ADSHG) works to promote awareness and improve the medical management of Addison's disease and other adrenal disorders, with an emphasis on facilitating self-management of the disease where appropriate.

Two posters presented at the SfE BES 2010 conference highlight the importance of patient education and self-sufficiency in the management of steroid dependence, and were awarded the ADSHG Annette Louise Seal memorial award: Poster 340 - Sue Stewart et al., Steroid replacement: an unusual alternative to oral therapy via 24-h s.c. infusion device (winner) and Poster 331 - Jean Munday et al., Group education improves patient confidence in managing steroid sick day rules (runner-up).

Jean Munday also provided an article on the benefit of educating steroid-dependent patients in the self-management of adrenal crises to the ADSHG June newsletter. The ADSHG are happy to send a page PDF with Jean Munday's article free of charge to all SfE members who contact: [email protected]. Those involved in the management of steroid-dependent patients may find ideas from her work useful in their own clinics.
