New therapeutic strategies in the hormone secreting and hormone dependent tumours, Italy

26 Sept 2011

Via www.naturejobs.com. The Dipartimento di Medicina Clinica e Sperimentale, Italy are seeking a researcher to work on adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). ACC have sporadic onset and their exact etiopathogenesis is still unclear. Inactivating mutations of p53 tumor suppressor gene and activating of IGF-II gene are the molecular events most frequently involved in adrenal tumorigenesis. Currently effective therapies are not available against this type of cancer. Prostate cancer (PCa) constitutes about 9% of all cancer deaths among men within the European Union. Even thought the mechanism which determine the proliferative disease of prostate is not completely known, various evidences indicate that the development of PCa require an adequate androgen stimulation of prostate.

The objectives of the proposed research will be to identify innovative therapeutic strategies in the treatment of these malignancies based on the identification of molecular factors involved in tumorigenesis potentially used as target therapy even associated with ionizing radiation.
