Sense About Science is a charity that aims to promote good science in public debates by equipping the public with the tools and knowledge to make an informed decision on science stories presented to them in the media. In collaboration with Straight Statistics and the Royal Statistical Society they have produced Making Sense of Statistics, a leaflet that lifts the lid on the somewhat cryptic field of statistics.

In Making Sense of Statistics, statisticians, scientists, and journalists outline some of the key issues in interpreting statistics, including the assumptions made to create a statistic, the nature of an average, and the significance of a proportion or percentage.
