Metabolomics for GH deficiency and replacement

25 Nov 2014

The diagnostic value of IGF1 for GH deficiency (GHD) in adults is not optimal. Molecular profiling could be used for biomarker discovery.  Höybye and colleagues compared the serum metabolome of GHD patients and controls. They found that differences in low-molecular weight compounds (LMC) distinguished controls from GHD patients. The LMC pattern persisted despite normalisation of IGF1 following GH replacement. This study is a first step in using metabolomics for GHD and GH replacement markers.
