The Biochemical Society is one of the largest Learned Societies in UK bioscience. We promote the advancement of the molecular biosciences which underpin and explain the essential processes of life impacting on modern biology. The Society represents and supports the interests of all those working in the sector through our membership, conferences, education and policy initiatives, publications and grants.
Our Education team supports the Society’s charitable objective of communication, outreach and engagement through a diverse range of novel events and resources: school science websites, teachers' workshops, public events, arts initiatives and festivals, studentship grants, school visits, careers information, policy work and young researchers' symposia. We wish to recruit a talented individual who will lead the Education Team, managing and further developing an existing portfolio of activities in support of science education and managing 1-2 staff. Educated to at least A Level standard (although a degree in science, communication or education would be desirable) the successful candidate is likely to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills together with the ability to work independently. Budgetary and event organisation skills would be particularly helpful. They will join the Society at a very exciting time in our development as we plan our move to purpose-refurbished accommodation in Central London that we will share with two sister societies and that we intend to develop as a hub for all UK bioscience.
For further details and an application pack, please contact Alison McWhinnie at: [email protected]. Informal enquiries may be made to the Chief Executive, Dr Chris Kirk ([email protected], 0207 280 4133). The closing date for receipt of applications is Tuesday 26 May 2009.
